FEP program Binus University

On Binus University there is a different program than any other university at the orientation for new students, the orientation program itself was called Freshmen Enrichment Program or we may call FEP. FEP program is more emphasis to the new students against the campus life rather than seniority that most other universities did. FEP program is divided by 3 parts, namely:
- General Orientation (GO):
GO aims to introduce new students into campus life that will be undertaken later, applicable regulation, a wide variety of student organizations, and to build familiarity among new students with Buddy Coordinator (BC) as well as among new students themselves. GO itself runs for one full week.
- Academic Orientation (AO):
AO itself has a purpose to provide the preparation of the new students with study skills, and useful in understanding the competence of graduation and of course the challenge in a career that will be undertaken of the new students in the future. AO held only about 2 weeks, but not every day or not as dense as elementary school, junior high, or high school.
- Campus Life Orientation (CLO):
In contrast to the CLO that has a purpose to familiarize the new students with the class schedules, improving the ability to speak English, to adapt well to the world of campus, in CLO also has a mentoring / coaching / counseling for the new students with the BC, and CLO also has a purpose to improve Social Awareness. CLO runs for one semester, coincided with the first semester.

General Orientation (GO), August 27th – 1st, 2015
First day in GO was only briefing to explain the rules that exist as long as GO was held, like we have to wear a short sleeves shirt and black trousers and also we have to wear a dark-colored shoes or brightly colored shoes and of course we have to wear the Flazz Card into our neck as our identity that used for attendance. Besides that, after we introduced ourselves, we held elections for Komti and Wakomti. Komti means chairman while Wakomti means vice chairman. Our Komti was named by Steven while our Wakomti was named by Alisha. Our class was ABN16, and we have a high solidarity. After the election Komti and Wakomti, we try to sing a Mars of Bina Nusantara and Mars of Binusian. After we’ve been decided who’s the Komti and Wakomti, we tried to sing Mars of Binus University and Mars of Binusian. On the next day, my activities began with opening ceremony. On this day, I’ve learned a lot of things, like Graduate Attributes that we need like 6 soft skills, ICT Skills, and EES, etc. I can’t remember all the things I’ve learned over the GO, but I can tell its core. So I’ve learned like quotes “Smart people learn from their mistakes but wise men learn from the mistakes of others.” and “Smart people copy it, but the genius one steal it.”, you need to think more deeper to understand all these quotes. GO also has a lot of things that I cannot say it one by one, there are also expo organized by GO on the weekend.
Academic Orientation (AO), August 7th – 17th, 2015
Class for AO unlike class at GO. For this time I got LB04 class. We also have a schedule like we already study at Binus like real, but actually it is a simulator. First subject on the first day is Introduction to Algorithm I, on this subject we’ve learned the history of algorithm, the concept, how to create a good algorithm, pseudo code, the structure of pseudo code. Introduction to Algorithm I has 2 shift of class, first shift is from 7:20 – 9:00 and the second shift is from 9:20 – 11:00.
The subjects on Tuesday is more to soft skill like Presentation, MindMap, Reading, and Writing skill. On presentation subject we’ve learned how to overcome the nervous, how to solve the problem on the stage, how to control the audience, etc. On the mindmap subject we’ve learned how to study with a good “style”, how to use our brain effectively as possible with minmap theory. For reading and writing subject, we’ve learned how to read more efficient, write a note or anything with a good way, etc. All these subjects has 2 shift of class too and also has the same time like yesterday.
On Wednesday, the subject is Kurikulum. Kurikulum has a purpose to introduce the real world on GAT Major and the lecturer itself is the head of our department and his name is Mr.Michael Yoseph or we usually called him Ko YP or Ka YP. I have gained enlightenment from this subject and of course from him.
On the next day, we learned about Introduction to Algorithm II. In this subject, we learned more specific, it’s about pseudo code. So based on what I have learned, pseudo code is a code that help us to solve the problems with a simple sequence based on algorithm theory.
- HTTP: HIMTI Togetherness and Top Performance:
Now, I want to tell you about HTTP. So, HTTP is one of the most activities that AO have. HTTP was held on Saturday, Sept 12th 2015 at BPPT building. In this activity I’ve got a lot of experiences about togetherness and friendship. And also HTTP has a lot of event on it, like Guest Star, Quiz, Dance, Mini Games, Visualization, and my favorite one is DJ Performance on the last performance. In HTTP I got a lot of friends too. Actually, my first impression was not too good about HTTP. But with time goes by, I became more familiar with it. Things that makes me more comfortable is the performance from HTTP itself, but what I regret is the lunch that has been HTTP gave to the audience, the portions are very disappointing. At least, at the end of the event, I really enjoyed the show that HTTP gave to us. I greatly appreciate the work of the committee of HTTP. It was an unforgettable moment in my life.
After the HTTP event was over, we continue the Introduction to Algorithm III subject on Monday. On this subject, we move from pseudo code into C language, actually the basics is still the same as pseudo code, the difference between these two subjects is the function. What I’m not got from this subject is the looping function, specifically is For function, like how to make a square with blank pages in it with For function on C language, etc. This things was make me desperate. But I always try my best to realize my dream.
For Tuesday I learned about a lot of things about game, like game design, art, and programming. What I love is game art and game design or maybe I will like game programming too, but it would be hard to understand the code that we must understand for making a thing with a lot of programming language. On this day, I have 3 shift, 2 shift for game education and the last shift is Academic Advisory. Academic Advisory itself is used to help the students when have a problem.
We have a simulation exam on Thursday. This exam has a purpose to introduce the students with exam situation. So the students are expected to understand what they should do when the real exam is held.
